Intro to relationships

Back to The Bunker

You pulled your covers over your head, trying to block out the sound of the TV. Damn you for ever allowing that. You should have just said no. As you groaned and tried to get to sleep again, you felt Abed’s eyes on you.

“Are you awake?” he asked, pointing the remote at the TV. The sound coming out of it stopped, but it stayed lit.

“I am now,” you complained, mouth half pressed against the pillow. “It's literally-” you pull your head out of the cover to check your watch, squinting as the light hits your eyes. “Abed, it's four in the morning.”

“I know, but it's May fourth,” he explained. You hide under the cover again. “I'm texting Troy a live commentary of Star Wars.” Cool, so nobody in the house was sleeping. Was that supposed to be somehow comforting?

“Is he… answering?” you asked, eyes already closed. Why did you ever decide to let Abed sleep in your bed? There was never any way that could have ended well.

“Yeah,” Abed answered.

“Of course he is,” you mumbled. “Couldn't it really wait until morning?”

“Too many movies.” You sighed and kept your eyes closed. He was going to take the hint, right? Of course not, what were you thinking? “Can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” you said. You flipped the cover out of the way. You weren't going to sleep, not on may fourth with every single Star Wars movie to be watched in twenty four hours. You might as well embrace it.

“Who do you think shot first?” Oh, for fuck's sake. You looked at Abed as he asked that like a hard, existential question.

“Do you want my opinion or the truth?” you asked. Abed thought for a second.

“The truth.”

“Okay,” you sighed. “The truth is someone fucked up the editing, but Han shot first.” Abed looked at you and narrowed his eyes. After a few seconds of pondering, he nodded.

“I agree.” Okay, maybe he was going to let you sleep. Maybe. “Is this what people do when they sleep in the same bed?” You huffed against the pillow and dragged your hands over your face.

“No, Abed, it's definitely not,” you said. “What is the point of this experiment anyway?”

“I'm not sure,” he answered. “I just wanted to do it.”

“You wanted to sleep in my bed so you could pull an all-nighter watching Star Wars and not letting me sleep?” you asked. Abed shrugged. What a terrible idea. Of all the people you could fall for, it really had to be Abed. It couldn't be someone who would ever reciprocate. Or at the very least, let you sleep through the night. “And how's the experiment going?” you asked.

“Good,” Abed said, not looking at you. He resumed the movie and you pulled the covers over your head again. You couldn't even get mad at him. It was just that bad. As you were just about to fall asleep again, You felt pressure on your head.

“Abed, what the hell are you doing?” you asked, voice muffled by the pillow.

“Cuddling.”

“That's not-” you sighed and trailed off. There was a more important question. “Why?!”

“I don't know,” he said, staring at the movie as it went on on the screen. “I’m following my animal instincts.”
